Welcome Exchange 2016…!!

Microsoft’s next messaging server is being developed

Microsoft has informed that the Exchange Server 2016 will be released sometime in the mid of this year. The new Exchange 2016 will have collaboration improvements. Few improvements are improved search capability for the mailboxes and calendars, performance improvements for the current e-discovery feature. Also there is a plan to make things easier for the developers with “new REST-based APIs for Mail, Calendar and contacts.

Microsoft could not show much development of office 365 in Exchange 2013, but the good news is a lot of Office 365 improvements will be added in the new server. Microsoft’s “cloud first” development for their enterprise products, meaning the new Exchange capabilities arrives only after being tested in the Microsoft’s cloud before being implemented in the customer’s environment.

So we could possibly guess that we might get the following features/ improvements in the new Exchange 2016 by looking into the Microsoft’s Office 365 Roadmap page. These features are already launched in the Office 365:

=> For Administering Exchange, we now have a improved ability to control “workload-specific admin roles”

=> Exchange Transport rule to automatically send email notification when a specific email matches a transport rule.

=> MAPI over HTTP for outlook & Exchange connectivity, having said that we no longer need to use the Outlook Anywhere protocol.

=> Improved Clutter email feature: we now have admin controls to assign a specification tag.

When looking at the Microsoft’s Roadmap page, we can find few of the below features being rolled out currently:

=> Data Loss prevention protection for all Office documents using the Exchange Transport Rule.

=> To reduce the frequency of spamming we have improved spam “backspatter” message checking. This feature is designed to reduce the frequency of the bounce back emails to the recipients because of the spoofed email addresses used by the spammers.

=> Delve content discovery tool is rolling out & also the  Boards feature that aggregates content, these features are designed to improve the collaboration within the organizations

The above improvements/ features might be useful for the administrators. Also we hear that Microsoft Office 365 features might start to take a different route from the features we have in the Servers, which we are still not sure about! So let’s wait to experience the new Exchange 2016 Server & share our views / thoughts!
