Exchange 2010: Out of Office is not working

This issue came in my private cloud customer where we configured out of office in the outlook but external sender was not getting the OOO message. Let me explain how we fixed it.

Issue:

Customer configured OWA for out of office for both internal and external but customers are not getting out of office.

Resolution:

Reviewed the exchange configuration:

-Remote Domain àGeneral tab. It was configured correctly.


-Remote DomainàMessage Format. It was configured correctly.


Ran the message tracking to see what was happing with Out of office messages


We got the 554 5.7.1 Relaying Denied from out spam guard.

We configured the following rule on the spam guard which permitted the out of office relaying.

Now Out of office started working for external senders. We got to see this in the message tracking on the spam appliance


And this on the exchange server.


 

Conclusion:

Don’t forget to configure spam appliances to allow out of office relays.
