Exchange 2010: Unable to Export Edge Subscription file
Unable to Export Edge Subscription file after DNS Suffix Change of the DMZ Edge Server.
Issue:
Today I was installing the edge server and added wrong suffix before installing the Edge Transport server.
Now I changed the suffix and tried to export the subscription but got the following Error.
You can’t use the filename parameter when running this command inside your Exchange Organization
This sever never joined any domain
Only domain suffix was changed.
Troubleshooting:
-Review Exchange and ADLDS using ADSIEDIT.MSC
-Reviewed all the config file in the bin directory
-Found EMC has no server
-Found Exchange transport and credential services are not starting
-Setup /m:recoverserver didn’t help
-Decided to remove the Edge transport role so removed edge subscription 1st by running the below cmd
get-edgesubscription | remove-edgesubscription
-Removed old suffix entry from the registry and restarted the server but no luck
-Uninstalled the EDGE Transport. But it failed
-Changed the suffix back to old domain suffix and uninstalled Edge server. But it failed again
-Setup.log got the below error
-Now, removed Exchange from ADSIedit – ADLDS configuration partition as metioned below:
-Then removed all the registry entries at the below locations for exchange.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServices &
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetSoftware
-Then removed the installation directory C:Program FilesMicrosoftExchange Server
-Restarted the server
-Changed the DNS suffix to the correct suffix
-Restarted the server
-Installed Edge server again.
-Now I was able to export the edge subscription.
!!At this point of time I am considering it a bug and will report to Microsoft. I will update here if Microsoft says this is expected behavior!!
Conclusion:
Verify all configurations are correct before installing Edge Transport server.
