msExchCurrentServerRoles attribute

MSExchangeGuru team is starting a new section –“msExch Attributes” explaining certain important attributes and their relevance wrt to an MS Exchange Server enviornment

msExchCurrentServerRoles- Who’s this guy?

If you ever ran “/m:RecoverServer” and performed disaster recovery for an exchange 2007 server, you seeked help from him.

This attribute resides on the server object in the Configuration container and we need to use ADSIEdit to view it.

CN=<Servername>,CN=Servers,CN=Exchange Administrative Group,CN=Administrative Groups,CN=<Organization name>,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=<Domain Name>

It indicates the roles present on the server object before it went down and will be an interger value as follows:

Mailbox role – 2
Client Access role (CAS) – 4
Unified Messaging role – 16
Hub Transport role – 32
Edge Transport role – 64
