Exchange 2013: Blocking 1 CAS from Mail CAS Proxy

Today I wanted to test if I can create a send connect to use CAS and block one CAS server.

Let us see how we proceed.

To be sure you understand, I am going to create a Send connector and add mailbox servers in it then I would like to use “Proxy through client access server”, this will route my mails via CAS server.

If you are not sure, we can only add mailbox role server in the send connector and not CAS server.

Solution:

  • Open ECP
  • Go to the mailflow à send connectors à Assign the source server which you wish to allow to proxy to CAS. This is important because we will be allowing the IP of the mailbox servers in the CAS “Outbound Proxy Frontend servername” connector.

I have configured 2 Send connectors one for gmail.com and other for yahoo.com

  • Let us check the IP of the W12R2E1 (11.0.0.5) and W12R2E2 (11.0.0.6) servers. There are my Exchange 2013 Servers which are MBX and CAS together.

  • Go to the mail flow à receive connectors à Open “Outbound Proxy Frontend servername”

  • Go to the scoping and allow mailbox server which should forward through this connector. You can do the same on all CAS servers but I would like to send different CAS for different outbound so that we can use both internet as per customer demand.

On server W12R2E1 I have allowed 11.0.0.6 and W12R2E2 I have allowed 11.0.0.5. This way it will show me that mails are going to different servers for the testing but in a production we can use same servers as Send connector for the domain.

  • Here is the expectation

-Emails to Gmail.com should go to W12R2E1 (11.0.0.5) server first because of the source server in the send connector then it should go out to internet from W12R2E2 (11.0.0.6) server which is allowing 11.0.0.5 (W12R2E1).

-Emails to Yahoo.com should go to W12R2E2 (11.0.0.6) server first because of the source server in the send connector then it should go out to internet from W12R2E1 (11.0.0.5) server which is allowing 11.0.0.6 (W12R2E2).

  • Let us check the message header.

  • By the way this was a single message. 🙂

I hope this will help someone.
