Some troubleshooting notes from my vault
Issue: Exchange 2010 issue “Detected catalog corruption for database” Issue with Exchange server 2010 DAG , with the following events:
Event ID 5301
Detected catalog corruption for database Database1
Event ID 123
At ‘7/13/2014 8:12:00 PM’ the Microsoft Exchange Information Store Database ‘Database1’ copy on this server experienced a corrupted search catalog. Consult the event log on the server for other “ExchangeStoreDb” and “MSExchange Search Indexer” events for more specific information about the failure. Reseeding the catalog is recommended via the ‘Update-MailboxDatabaseCopy’ task
Resolution:
=> Basically the events were pointing to a corrupted catalog, we had to fix this by reseeding the catalog from another server that has a valid copy of the catalog using the following command:
“Update-MailboxDatabaseCopy –Identity Database1Servername –CatalogOnly”
Issue: Outlook Web App isn’t available. If the problem continues, please contact your helpdesk. Users get this error when trying to login to the OWA in an environment with multiple CAS servers where CAS proxying is used
Resolution:
On the target CAS server, Ensure that Windows Integrated Authentication is the only the authentication method enabled on the OWA and ECP virtual directories.
Issue: we get the following error when creating a meeting request for a Room Mailbox in Exchange 2010. “You marked “RoomMailboxName” as a resource. You cannot schedule a meeting with “RoomMailboxName” because you do not have the appropriate permissions for that account. Either enter the name as a required or optional attendee or talk to your administrator about giving you permission to schedule “RoomMailboxName””
Resolution:
=> Make sure all permissions are set correctly for the Room Mailbox.
=> Create an Outlook Profile for the Room Mailbox that is experiencing issues
=> Launch Outlook with the newly created profile for the Room Mailbox.
=> Open Resource Scheduling (File => Options = > Calendar => Resource Scheduling)
=> Make sure that the following options are NOT selected:
Automatically accept meeting requests and process cancellations
Automatically decline conflicting meeting requests
Automatically decline recurring meeting requests
Issue: Exchange 2010 issue where GAL is blank when running Outlook in online mode.
Issue with blank GAL when running Outlook in online mode after migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 SP1.
Resolution:
=> In the ADSI EDIT we have to clear the value “msExchQueryBaseDN” for the affected user.
Issue: When we have a Microsoft Forefront installed we will get the following NDR when sending mails to a valid user:
550 5.7.1 :127.0.0.3:Client host … blocked using 88.blocklist.zap; Mail from IP banned. To request removal from this list please forward this message to delist.forefront@messaging.microsoft.com”
Resolution:
=> Add the IP address of the remote domain to the “IP Allow List” on your Edge servers. We can get his IP from the NDR or by contacting the remote party).
Issue: Information Store & Microsoft Exchange Transport service do not start automatically after a reboot in Exchange 2007 Server.
In addition to above we get the following event ID’s:

Event Category: None
Event ID: 7022
Description:
The FSCController service hung on starting
Event Type: Error

Resolution:
Issue was with the Forefront, had to install Forefront Security for Exchange SP2 to fix the issue.
Issue: we keep getting Event ID 2937:”Exchange 2010 Offline Address Book ” is pointing to the Deleted Objects container in Active Directory. This property should be fixed as soon as possible”.
We get the event ID:2937 regarding the offline address book pointing to the deleted object in the AD:
Process powershell.exe (PID=14836). Object [CN=Exchange 2010 OAB,CN=Offline Address Lists,CN=Address Lists Container,CN=Name,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=servername,DC=net]. Property [PublicFolderDatabase] is set to value [servername.net/Configuration/Deleted Objects/PFDEL:f03f8b36-7d36-4d3d-98a7-a0f6e2f325a6], it is pointing to the Deleted Objects container in Active Directory. This property should be fixed as soon as possible
Resolution:
=> Open ADSI EDIT.
=> Navigate to “CN=Exchange 2010 OAB,CN=Offline Address Lists,CN=Address Lists Container,CN=Name,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration”
=> Right click Exchange 2010 OAB and choose properties.
=> Navigate to the siteFolderServer attribute and you will see the same value specified here as in the event id.
=> Click clear on this and apply the setting.
=> Now open the Exchange Management Console navigate to Organization Configuration=> Mailbox => Offline Address Book
=> Right click the OAB in question and browse to the distribution tab.
=> Now uncheck “enable folder distribution” and click ok.
=> We have to re-enable the above setting. Click “enable folder distribution” & click ok.
=> This issue will be fixed now. If we go to the AdsiEDIT & check the siteFolderServer attribute, we should no longer see any deleted object container is present.
