Exchange 2013 and 2010: Prerequisite Updates for Exchange 2016 Coexistence Released
Today Microsoft released the updates which are required to install Exchange 2016 RTM in your Exchange 2010 or 2013.
Important: Test the update in your lab before deploying it in the production.
Exchange 2013 Cumulative update 10 has been release which is the prerequisite to install exchange 2016 in your environment. You can download it from here.
List of fixes can be checked here. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3078678
There is no schema update required for this update but there are additional RBAC definitions which will require you to run prepareAD.
Hybrid or Exchange online archiving customer needs to have CU10 or CU9.
Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 3 Update Rollup 11 has been released which is the prerequisite to install exchange 2016 in your environment. You can download it from here.
This release fix Information Store crash when you are upgrading your Lync server infrastructure to Skype for Business. The crash occurs when the Lync Contacts folder is renamed to Skype for Business Contacts as part of a migration to Skype for Business
Now, you can start preparing your current infrastructure to introduce Exchange 2016 by doing the following:
-Exchange 2010 or 2013 update.
-AD forest and domain level to windows 2008
-Get the windows OS license for windows 2012 R2
-Prepare for Exchange 2016 licenses which will be available soon after RTM release.
-Prepare to procure Load Balancer appliances if you are currently using windows NLB because CAS role has been merged and mailbox role will use DAG which required clustering. WNLB and clustering can’t work together on one server.
-If you are on Exchange 2013 then enable mapi over http.
