Exchange 2010: Configure MAC spoofing on VMware
Today I was configuring windows NLB for a customer and figure out how to configure MAC spoofing in VMware so I am sharing the details in addition to the previous WNLB configuration blog.
It is not a big setup and they wanted to configure windows network load balancing to be configured for their Client Access and Hub Transport Server roles.
Customer had the following infrastructure.
2 Windows 2008 R2 Domain Controllers.
2 Windows 2008 R2 Exchange 2010 SP3 CAS + HT servers
2 Windows 2008 R2 Exchange 2010 SP3 mailbox servers with DAG
We successfully configured the Windows NLB with the help of this blog of mine and CAS servers were now load balanced.
Now we assign the manual MAC address to the NLB NIC but there was no check box to check enable MAC spoofing like we see in the Hyper-V.

VMware is little complex so after researching we found that we need to configure “Notify Switches” for the Port Group which will configured No. Follow the below mentioned steps to configure Notify Switches.
- Log in to the VI Client or vSphere Client and select the ESXi/ESX host.
- Click Configuration tab.
- Click Networking under Hardware.
- Click Properties for the vSwitch. The vSwitch Properties dialog appears.
- Click Ports .
- Click the portgroup you want to edit and click Edit.
- Click NIC Teaming.
- Select No from the Notify Switches dropdown.
I would recommend to create a new port group and add only NLB NIC into the Port Group then configure “Notify Switches” on this port group.
